Given that the CellOne fraud has been operational on an international scale- between a number of Gulf countries and Indian states- should the fraud be investigated by CBI or be left to the Pune Police?
In Pune the scam is currently being investigated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Jadhav following a complaint lodged by BSNL.
Speaking to TNN, a number of senior retired police officials said that since the scam seemed to have a national angle, handing over the investigations to CBI would be appropriate.
Senior serving officials in Pune police commissionerate, however, said that the local police team which was investigating into the scam should be given an opportunity to crack the case as they had already done a considerable amount of groundwork.
Former commissioner of police (Mumbai) Julio Ribeiro said that it was for the Pune police to decide as to who should investigate the case. "If the state police wants to investigate the case then they should do it. Or else, the case can be sent to the state CID," he said.
